small studio | big experience

WINTER HOLBEN is a multidisciplinary studio built around the concept of seamlessly integrating architecture, design, and branding. We are architects, thinkers, makers, designers, and curators, dedicated to creating innovative and engaging design experiences for our clients, their visitors, patrons, and employees alike.

We believe in big ideas and a small team approach, and in close collaborative work with our clients. The cross-pollination of ideas around the studio excites us, and the world outside our walls inspires us. Together, we tap into more than 30 years of collective experience, technical knowledge, and strategic thinking around the built environment.

Elisa specializes in the application of branding, graphics, and wayfinding in the three-dimensional built environment. She began her career as a published scientific illustrator with a degree in science and art. Her right- and left-brained thinking led her to the world of environmental branding where she became Creative Director of high profile projects for clients like Bank of America, Wachovia, UPS Express and 3S Artspace. Elisa is an expert in brand strategy, graphic design, industrial design, and interior design with a strong understanding of architecture, engineering and fabrication. She designs and leads large scale branding programs as well as custom site specific installations. In the spring of 2011 she started her own studio, WINTER HOLBEN, continuing to work with national brands, while becoming more involved in local projects where she could see the impact of her work in her community. She enjoys spending time skiing, hiking, biking, and boating with her family, and volunteering and coaching for the Kittery Schools and local arts organizations.

  • Ian Ciesla

    Brand Experience Designer

    ian@winterholben.com

Ian was born in New York and graduated from Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design. He has deeply rooted primitive sensations to express himself in a visual way. To share these personal moments externally, Ian has become an artist, designer, maker, music enthusiast, and adventurer. After graduating, he moved to New Hampshire where he established himself as a Product/Graphic Designer. Over the past nine years he has worked on a multitude of design campaigns for large corporate clients, small businesses, Theatre Clients, Non-profit Organizations, and has developed branding and package design. Before joining the WINTER HOLBEN team he co-founded and branded a new retail location in Portsmouth, NH. The store features “Heritage” and “USA made” apparel and accessories. Ian’s free time typically consists of drawing, playing guitar, listening to music and cycling through the greater Seacoast area. His earnest time is shared with his beautiful girlfriend.

  • Patrick Chabot

    Architectural Intern

    patrick@winterholben.com

A New Hampshire native, Patrick earned his Bachelor’s in Architecture at Keene State College, where he was active in art and architecture around the campus and surrounding community. He represented the architectural school in several COPLAC (Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges) conferences, had two design studios in which he collaborated with nonprofit organizations to develop design solutions to organizational challenges, and collaborated on an art installation in downtown Keene, NH. Before joining WINTER HOLBEN, Patrick worked at a small residential architecture firm and volunteered for a nonprofit artist coalition, helping them design Feng Shui cob housing. Outside of work, Patrick spends his time running, hiking, and adventuring, as well as sketching and writing music for two bands he plays guitar and bass in.

community + design

We believe in the powerful relationship between design and community: that design transforms communities, and that communities shape design. Our team is dedicated to the Seacoast region, where we live, work, and play, and where we are inspired everyday by the natural landscape and the kind and creative folks whose paths we cross.

Our studio is located at "THINKYARD," a brand new cooperative workspace located in the heart of the Kittery Foreside. We’re lucky to spend our days working amongst many creative entrepreneurs in a friendly and welcoming environment. We look forward to your next visit!
