Exhibit Design Receives New England Museum Association Award
Seacoast Science Center's New Exhibit "Our Dynamic Gulf of Maine: A Place of Urgency and Hope" is Recognized
We are pleased to announce that the newly opened exhibition, "Our Dynamic Gulf of Maine: A Place of Urgency and Hope" is the recipient of a 2022 Excellence Award from The New England Museum Association. The award-winning exhibit is the result of our collaboration with marine science programming, communication, and aquarist experts at the Seacoast Science Center, and generous support of volunteers and fellow donors.
The exhibit at the Seacoast Science Center, a non-profit marine science and education organization in Rye, New Hampshire, engages guests with its uniquely beautiful coastal environment to impart a better understanding of the delicate relationships between humans, local water habitats and the world.
As a multidisciplinary architecture and design firm, founded by science-minded creatives, WINTER HOLBEN was uniquely qualified for this highly complex project. Equipped to manage a wide range of considerations from structural limitations and climate controls to info-graphics and experiential design, we produced innovative and deeply thoughtful solutions that were cost-effective and time sensitive. Our uniquely holistic approach incorporating architecture, graphic design and interior design solutions, streamlined the project and resulted in greater awareness of the SSC, museum audience and attendance growth, and increased financial support for this impactful non-profit organization.

The re-envisioning of this space aspired to more intentionally lead visitors through curated moments like The Lobster Trap teaching station, Adrift in the Deep with its beautiful jellyfish and Cashes Ledge: Crown Jewel of the Gulf of Maine, which highlights this biological hotspot that supports a plethora of life unlike anywhere else in the Gulf. Beyond a dramatic floor-to-ceiling entryway, deep blue walls and glowing tanks invoke cold, underwater worlds. By contrast, vibrant orange tones representing the growing presence and urgency of warming temperatures, flow through the exhibit as shapes on the walls and forms in the furniture—currents connecting all of these elements in a cohesive way, balancing the joy and urgency of this marine environment to educate and and inspire both children and adults.
