New Studio Featured in Maine Home + Design
We are pleased to share that WINTER HOLBEN’s new studio in the Kittery Foreside has been featured in Maine Home + Design’s prominent “Drawing Board” column, a showcase of innovative and noteworthy designs. Titled ‘Mix and Match,’ the article delves into the design philosophy behind our latest project at 3 Walker Street, emphasizing its blend of contemporary aesthetics and historic elements that reflect the vibrant character of Kittery Foreside.
Our team drew inspiration from the working waterfront and the eclectic charm of the surrounding area. The resulting mixed-use development features a dynamic studio space, a contemporary gallery, a third-floor apartment with views of the Piscataqua River, and two affordable housing units. The design incorporates sustainable materials sourced from Maine, such as thermally modified radiata pine shingles and high-performance timber insulation, along with a solar array canopy that underscores our commitment to sustainable design.
We’re proud to collaborate with Bridgeside Building Co., Altus Engineering, and Woodburn and Associates on this project, which is expected to be completed by Spring 2025. The development is a testament to the possibilities of blending modern design with the rich historical context of Kittery Foreside, creating a space that fosters creativity, community, and sustainability.
