Kittery Workforce Housing Charrette

WINTER HOLBEN architecture + design proudly participated in the recent Kittery Workforce Housing Charrette, facilitated by the Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast. This dynamic event brought together architects, developers, and community stakeholders to address the critical need for sustainable and affordable housing in the region, focusing on innovative updates to Kittery’s current Business Park Zone.

The charrette provided a collaborative platform to explore creative solutions for Kittery’s housing challenges. Discussions centered on smart design, energy efficiency, and fostering community integration. WINTER HOLBEN contributed their expertise in designing diverse building types and scales, proposing concepts for a "new neighborhood" in Kittery that could include everything from single-family homes to multi-unit buildings designed for affordability and accessibility.

The event also featured insightful presentations on innovative building materials, zoning strategies, and balancing growth with environmental preservation. These discussions underscored the importance of thoughtful planning and design in addressing Maine’s evolving housing needs.

“At WINTER HOLBEN, we are passionate about creating sustainable, well-designed spaces that respond to community needs,” said Brandon Holben, Principal Architect. “The charrette was an incredible opportunity to collaborate and explore meaningful ways to expand housing options while maintaining Kittery’s character and environmental values.”

As Maine continues to face pressing housing challenges, charrettes like this are an essential step toward developing comprehensive and sustainable solutions. WINTER HOLBEN looks forward to ongoing collaboration with the Workforce Housing Coalition and contributing to future initiatives that address these critical needs.
