New Project: Gould Academy Field House

A vision for the evolution for their historic athletic facility

WINTER HOLBEN is excited to be working with Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, on a comprehensive vision for the evolution of its Field House—the heart of Gould Athletics and an important destination for students, faculty, families, alumni, and visitors.

The project began with a broad assessment of the existing facility and feedback from the Gould community to identify opportunities to improve the Field House’s identity, functionality, performance, and overall experience. Building on those conversations, our team is developing a thoughtful, phased vision that maximizes existing resources while positioning the facility to better support Gould Athletics and the campus community for years to come.

The vision is to create a Field House that reflects the excellence of Gould Athletics while becoming an even more vibrant hub for athletics, wellness, community, and school pride.

Our work explores opportunities to create a stronger sense of arrival and architectural identity; improve wayfinding and the visitor experience; enhance locker rooms, team spaces, and athlete amenities; update the overall interior spaces; and rethink underutilized areas to better support current and future programming.

A key focus of the study is making the most of the existing building—maximizing every square foot before expanding and identifying improvements that can be implemented strategically over time.

Through our integrated approach to architecture, interiors, and experiential design, we are looking at the Field House as a complete experience—from its campus presence and front door to the spaces where students train, gather, compete, and celebrate.

IDENTITY • EXPERIENCE • PERFORMANCE • COMMUNITY • FUTURE

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Gould Academy and helping shape the next chapter of this important campus facility.
