The Rockport House Opens its Doors
Distinctive Boutique Inn Design
A meticulously renovated Victorian-era inn has re-opened its doors in the heart of Rockport, Massachusetts. The Rockport House is an exquisite property featuring a Main Inn, a Carriage House, and a private Cottage, each offering guests a captivating blend of vintage allure and contemporary luxury. With an extensive and unique interior design by WINTER HOLBEN, guests rooms are each individually designed and appointed. A short walk from Rockport’s waterfront, this exquisitely renovated Victorian combines intricate, 19th century details with modern and eclectic design.
Madbury Real Estate Ventures tasked WINTER HOLBEN with designing the carriage house and main inn as well as the guest experience strategy—a look and feel for the hotel that would create an ebullient atmosphere for guests seeking a combination of grand aesthetics and vintage charm. Taking inspiration from the uniquely colorful and marvelously artistic attributes of Rockport, design lead and founding Principal Elisa Winter Holben took great care to develop an atmosphere of heritage, distinctive luxury, and impeccable style.
"Our firm had the privilege of working with Winter Holben for the interior design of our boutique inn in Rockport, MA: The Rockport House. This was a challenging project that involved renovating an existing, dated bed and breakfast property into a modern, stylish inn, without destroying the original character. We selected Winter Holben because we wanted a firm that could offer a unique design to match our business goals and appeal to our target customers. We ended up with a design that is bold, colorful, ebullient, and certainly not mainstream. Feedback from our initial guests is that we nailed it. It was great working with Elisa and her team and we will do so again on future projects." Taylor McMaster, Managing Partner
Each guest room was carefully curated and furnished to complement and enhance restored elements such as the elegant, ornate ceilings. Guests have an abundance of options, with a variety of styles, colors, and expressions catering to whatever experience they are seeking. From crisp, graphic lines painted in a deliciously golden yellow hovering above a king size bed, to a richly adorned suite embraced with custom wallpaper in partnership with Thatcher a custom wallcovering studio.
Cape Anne’s rich cultural history, plethora of art galleries, and satisfying dining possibilities is the perfect landscape to surround this modern boutique hotel built for travelers who have a love for wanderlust and aesthetic pleasures.
The culmination of each design choice—from the panoramic consideration of the versatile property to the smallest details of fabric and accessories—Winter Holben not only created a consummate and vivid interior design but a rich ambiance of opulent relaxation and wonder. The Rockport House is a stellar example of how critical the connection of architecture and design is to the context of feeling: the sensory experiences that allow us to travel both in the sense of location and marvel.
